Do you want to be a vip coach?

Vip is a coaching program created to recognize the contribution of coaches in communities across Nova Scotia. Vip is not a certification or requirement, but rather a proactive opportunity for coaches to continue to excel in ethical leadership.

This program is designed to raise the bar for what it means to be a coach in Nova Scotia. Vip participants are supported and part of a broader community who are leading the way, creating a positive impact on the lives of everyone in the provincial and community sport sector. What do I have to do to be accepted?

To be part of the vip coach program, coaches must meet a specific criteria. Completion of this application form allows us to check your vip program eligibility and determine your next steps to meet the criteria.

To officially obtain the vip coaching status, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Sign Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Code of Conduct
  • Agree to meeting minimum safe sport training recommendations
  • Trained or Certified to coach the level of sport indicated in your application
  • Obtain three Professional Development points within the past 12 months
  • Complete Safe Sport Training*:
    • Commit to Kids
    • Respect in Sport
    • Making Ethical Decisions
  • Submit a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry

Nova Scotia Mentorship Program

The goal of this new initiative is to pair up experienced Nova Scotia community coaches with upcoming, committed coaches who are looking to grow in their roles, to increase the opportunities for coaches to work with those in other sports and see what other contexts look like and to increase the success rates of upcoming coaches.

Who is this program for? 

Mentees: Mentees must be currently coaching, must show interest and motivation for continuing to develop as a coach. Mentees should meet the following;

  • Coach athletes at least 4-6 months of the year 
  • Have completed some NCCP Training in their sport or multi-sport
  • Commit to participation in the full program 
  • Have support of their Community Sport Organization 

Mentors: Mentors are community and provincial level coaches who have the time and willingness to share their experience with upcoming coaches in their community.  Mentors are paid an honorarium for the mentorship program.  Mentors should meet the following; 

  • Be an experienced coach in their sport (5+ years coaching) 
  • Have completed Competition Introduction or above training in their sport.  Ideally, mentors are Competition Introduction Certified. 
  • Commit to participation in the full program 

Both Mentors and Mentees will be required to attend formal mentor training at the onset of the program.
